On July 7, 2008 the Downtown Lions Club had its installation of officers at the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired. The guest speaker was Secretary of State Jay Dardenne, who gave a very entertaining talk about his recommended books on Louisiana history, complete with imitations of politicals figures through the years. Installation of officers was conducted by PDG Lion Nancey Farr. An award was given to Lion Dale Rameriz for Lion of the Year. A check presentation of forty thousand dollars was made by the Downtown Lions to Catholic Charites for their Family Acheivement Program to help those who remain displaced by hurricanes Katrina and Rita get into permanant housing. Many thanks to the Manino family of Deep South Choppers and to the Downtown Business Association. This contribution was made possible by the opportunities they gave the Lions to raise money to put back into our community. Toastmaster for the evening was Johnny Ahysen. The event was catered by Chef Don Bergeron.
